Integral Review

Welcome to my personal blog! I use it to share what I'm currently learning or thinking about, usually on topics related to technology, business, and health.

Building Integral Review v2... and a blogging platform

You're only a real developer once you start spending more time building your blog than actually writing on it. Once again, I proved it by rebuilding my entire blog, but to spice things up, I even decided to create a full blog engine.

The idea came when my wife told me she wanted a place online to put some articles. I couldn't bear the idea of having to install a blog twice, which felt like a huge waste, so I built everything from scratch.

The result is https://velism.com. Building this blog engine was an interesting problem as I also wanted a system that was decently customizable. My solution was to minimize the use of HTML and rely on the simple.css framework. Users can then provide custom CSS that gets added to their own blog. This gives a lot of creative freedom for a reasonable amount of work.

Now that I have full control over the blog platform, I also intend to add a few cool things that I felt were missing from Ghost. In particular, I miss the old personal websites from the start of the internet where you would just share random aspects of your life. It felt a lot more personal and interesting instead of looking like CVs. To recreate this, I already added a way to upload pictures and soon will integrate the home feed activities from Strava and GitHub.
